Scott, I love your photo choice. I remember seeing this in our Music History class multiple times. Not only does it show the importance of recordings as a convenience, but it also shows the historical value. It also makes me think about my Jazz Pedagogy class this semester where we learned that a lot of the jazz improvisations played by famous musicians in the early part of the century were not recorded at all. They were asked to record them at a later date and unfortunately since they had to play from memory, some of the original brilliance was lost. I wonder how much we lost from not having recording capabilities so readily available at the drop of a hat back then as we do today.
